The world’s energy demands are constantly on the rise and conventional forms of energy production contribute to aggravate global concerns such as the greenhouse effect and global climate change. The need to innovate and employ alternative processes and untapped resources of energy has become crucial for the long-term sustainability of worldwide energy consumption. Organic Waste-to-Energy conversion is one such solution, which consists of generating energy in the form of biogas. Biogas can subsequently be transformed into electricity, heat, CNG, LNG, and other applications. Thus, using the advanced covered anaerobic lagoon technology, organic wastes such as palm oil mill effluent (POME), animal waste, and other agro-industrial residues can be utilized for energy production.
